Definitely a restaurant to explore: Burmese cuisine, reflecting its own blend of neighboring Thai, Chinese, and Indian influences, is hard to find in the DC area, and the critics in the know all praise this restaurant. The extensive moderately-priced menu has lots to offer vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. (See website for complete menu.) All the vegetarian entrees are priced under $9, all of the noodle-combination dishes are priced under $10, and all of the meat and seafood entrees are priced under $11. The salad called Let Phet Thoke (SL05) consisting of fermented tea leaves, tomato and cabbage, garnished with fried garlic (a la Thai) and crispy yellow peas shows the Burmese use of tea leaves in culinary preparations, apparently a hallmark of this cuisine. Shrimp sauteed with sour mustard, onion and cilantro sounds interesting (SF05). Only The fish and rice-noodle soup is a Burmese stand-by. Only two desserts appear on the menu. The Burmese-grown green tea sounds like the beverage to try.
