Absolutely authentic Indian cuisine at moderate prices. All of my Indian friends tell me that this is one of the best places in the Washington DC area. Actually there are four branches of Minerva -- three are in Northern Virginia (Herndon, Chantilly and Fairfax) and one is in Atlanta, Georgia. See their website for maps and a recipe for a vegetable biryani -- the famous Indian baked rice dish. The fiery Lamb Vindaloo is great, as is the spicy Kadai Shrimp. Don’t miss the Mango Lassi drink -- smooth as silk and full of flavor. The many vegetarian entrees (to be expected in a South Indian restaurant) average $9. and the meat entrees are $10 to $12. The decor is austere to the extreme; the big flat-screen TV at one end of the dining room is the focal point anyway -- the sound track for the musical/dance films comes out of speakers in the ceiling. Apparently the spartan decor reflects the Indian tradition of budget-priced "canteens" or eating halls, with their long tables in rows. Great lunch buffets for the business crowd Monday through Friday.

Wonderful, moderately priced South Indian cuisine. The decor is rather austere, but the food and service are excellent. The week-day lunch buffet is very popular.
